Cambridgeshire County Council, as the highway authority, has the ultimate responsibility for the public rights of way (footpaths, bridleways and by-ways as well as roads) in the area.
Bassingbourn-cum-Kneesworth Parish Council is a member of the Parish Paths Partnership and, together with local landowners, undertakes maintenance work on the local footpaths, bridleways and by-ways.
Additionally there a number of permissive footpaths in the village - footpaths on which the landowner allows the public to walk.
This adds up to an extensive network of 22.5 km (14 miles) of paths.
